All rhyme, no reason

I want
a box of truffle
a brand new duffel
a house by the beach
some prunes and wild peach
looks that could kill
a vacation in brazil
a cute new hairdo
an ultra cool tattoo
all day shine
cheese,crackers and wine
an hour long shower
no withering flower
fantasy dream
diamonds that gleam
some vodka with lime
to make a better rhyme

Happy for no reason ??!!

Okay. This post is in total contradiction to my earlier post. Have you ever had one of those days when you are totally happy and happy for no reason at all ? I am having one of those days. I just feel so good today but have no idea why. Nothing great has happened today, nothing bad has happened either and I still can't figure out why I am feeling this way. But I am just all smiles and super exuberant. I guess sometimes it's alright to not reason much but just live the moment.

Hope all you guys are feeling as good as I am :-)

Just one of those days ?!

Have you ever had one of those days ? You know the kind I am talking about, when you feel like you have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. One of those days when your energy is at its lowest ebb all day long and everything you do goes totally haywire. I seem to be having too many of them lately. Man, I need a break from the daily grind thats grinding me down. I need a vacation. Seriously.

Happy Diwali

Ever since one of my teachers in middle school gave us the gyan of not to buy crackers during diwali because young children were forced to work in sivakasi for making them, me and a few of my friends have been boycotting them. The restraint to not buy/fire them used to be a pride thingy between us friends then. But slowly over the years, the interest also kinda faded off and I guess it has been more than a decade now since I actually indulged.

This morning, I was talking to a friend back in India and came to know that sivakasi now comes with those 'child labor free' stickers on crackers. I so wish I were in India now and blasting those crackers to glory ! Anyways, Happy Diwali, you all folks. Have a good one.

Optimism and Stupidity

They say, it's a fine line between optimism and stupidity and I just keep crossing it ! Sometimes I wonder if being overly optimistic is just inanely stupid ! Any thoughts ?

Shelfari spam

Lately I have been getting invites from friends to join Shelfari, the online community for book lovers. I decided to check this site and created a profile for myself. I added only five contacts to my list and can't believe they spammed everyone in my address book. I feel so stupid and just can't help thinking what the random people who received this invite from me must be wondering. Duh !

PS: Update : Googling reveals that it's not just me and there have been lotsa other victims to this shelfari spam. Folks, Beware !

Moving et al

It's now the packing up and moving on ( pun unintended ) time of the year for me.

When I moved to california last summer, I had with me precisely two big cases and four boxes. Now I am doing a move again, locally though and I just can't help noticing how much of a packrat I have become.

The number of boxes seem to have grown in multitude over the year and choosing what to keep and what not seems to be the toughest decision I need to make at this point of time in life!

Packing seems to be a pain. But unpacking sure does seem to excite me. I wish somebody would do the packing and moving for me and I could just get away with the unpacking ;-)

It's gonna be a chaotic and a fun filled weekend for me. I hope to catch up with ya all real soon.

The weeks that went by

Crazy work hours. Change from the routine. No blogging. Some blog hopping. New ventures. Some challenges. Some disappointments. New faces and farewells. Newer tasks. Some frustrating. Some demanding. Few surprises. Some cricket. Exciting and thrilling. Some not-so-happening plans. Some insights to the future.

Hoping the weeks to come will be a little less crazier :-)

Hmmm

After the last coupla posts, I have been getting calls/mails from friends/family checking to see if I am doing okay. I was a little surprised and infact overwhelmed by all your gestures. I did nt realize I was projecting this kind of an image about me to ya all.

So folks, just to let ya all know, I am doing great. Life is absolutely 'wonderful' as it has always been. Whatever I scribble here does nt always have to relate to me unless ofcourse I tag it with a 'self'. Thank ya all, for checking on me and keep visiting dushti.

Note to self : Start scribbling on lighter aspects of life and get off the 'serious' image !

Things I say a lot

The other day I was talking to a friend and realised how predictable my reactions have become. I thought about it and came up with this list of things I say more often.

When I am wowed
cooool, sooooper, awesome, samma, nice, wow

On an advising mode
freeya vidu, chill, forget it

At my sarcastic best
yeah right, very funny

With a tinge of envy
adapavi/adipavi, kalaku po

My most common reactions
apdiya? ille ? really? I know or God only knows!

In despair
kadavule, aandava, Oh my goddddd !

Swearing
you are so sick, damn

Other frequently used words
bore, vetti, timepass, banda, comedy, scene

And ofcourse a lot of ohs, aaahs, huhs, hmms and ahems when I have nothing much to say.

How predictable are you and how does your list look like?

Cheap thrills aka alpa sandoshams

Breaking the suspense plot of a movie/book to friends who have nt seen/read it yet.

Hanging out at an expensive mall just to check out what the high-heeled ladies shop for and how much they blow out on a day's shopping.

Winning in raffle, bingo and the likes and getting a better prize than a friend/colleague.

Asking too many nagging questions to friends when they are engrossed in another activity.

Driving 5mph below the speed limit especially in a one lane road and checking out the driver behind's reaction.

When friends sympathize with a 'been there done that' during sodappal recipes, awful hair cuts and the likes.

Discovering people who blog/comment anonymously.

Do you have any?

High school nostalgia

I read this post recently and boy, I could nt help thinking about my high school days. Nothing could beat the excitement then of buying the freshly printed english text books and reading them much much before the school opened. I even remember, we had those silly moments between us friends as to who gets the books first and who finishes reading them all.

Well, the CBSE english syllabus was nt the best of its kind. However it did introduce me to a lot of good writing especially during those times when I had nt explored much beyond the Enid Blytons and Sidney Sheldons. I should say, I truly relished Anita Desai's close-to-the-soil writing style, Saki's black humor, Wilde's satire, O Henry's twists of plots, Emily Dickinson's poetry and many other writers' unique writing styles. Infact, most of the lessons that we had in our 8-12 standards are still fresh in my mind - Games at twilight, Lady at platform number 8, Kite maker,The gift of Magi, The importance of being Ernest, Mrs Packeltide's tiger, The last leaf, to name a few.

Do these stories ring a bell to any of you guys and do you have any such memories from high school?

Tagged

I have been tagged by Rads. The rules of the tag are:

1. Players start with 8 random facts about themselves.
2. Those who are tagged should post these rules and their 8 random facts.
3. Players should tag 8 other people and notify them they have been tagged.

Here is my list.

1. I exhibit narcissistic tendencies. I love to see myself on the mirror every now and then and should say it has almost become an OCD now.

2. I am a sucker for Tea. A steaming hot cup of masala chai is all it takes to make my day. By the way, I detest coffee. Truly, madly, deeply !

3. I am a can-read-any-trash and can-watch-any-crap kind. Mind you, I can do that over and over again. Some of my friends have often wondered if I ever had that thing called 'taste' when it comes to books and movies! Sadly naah!

4. My earliest ambition in life was to become a cartoonist. I have always found them so cool. But for the life of me, I cannot draw/sketch/paint or do anything even remotely to do with the art stuff. So had to settle being an engineer.

5. I always start reading a magazine from the last page.

6. I suffer from PDC syndrome. Pathetically directionally challenged. Spin me around and I am lost !

7. When I was younger, I had always wished I turn eighteen soon. It felt so cool then. But now, I really wish I stop growing old. The only consolation inspite of growing old probably is that I don't look my age. A lot of people still ask me if I am fresh out of high school :-)

8. I am passionate about sleeping and I can sleep at the drop of a hat.

PS: Being the first tag, I guess I can do some breaking the rules and I skip the tagging other people part of the tag.

PPS: This is the longest post I have written so far ! Btw, another random fact about me, I always like to keep it short. Small is afterall beautiful :-)

Dushtism

First impression is nt always the best impression.

Sometimes it's okay to laugh at ourselves . Only sometimes.

You just cannot get some people out of your mind, however harder you try.

It's okay to like some people for no rhyme or reason.

Once bitten is twice shy.

It's perfectly alright to hate some people.

We cannot please everyone all the time.

The unpublished

Dear Dushti,

Since the last week of may, you would have created a dozen of us. Create, edit, redraft, and that is all you have been doing to us. Are we just destined to adorn your notepad ? Don't you think we deserve to see ourselves in the blog world and get some comments too. Please do not keep us waiting in the notepad for long.

Hoping to get published soon.

Sincerely yours,
The unpublished.

Pehla nasha

One of my all time favourite songs. I would have listened to it a gazillion times and still can't resist falling in love with it every single time I listen to it .

Everything about the song is so perfect - the mood, the music, the singing, the lyrics and the magic it creates. I am in total awe ! It brings me some wonderful memories too - of high school days, of friends and college, of teenage crushes, of doordarshan and tape recorder days, of butterfly moments ! Ahhh...the song is indeed a nasha.

Enjoy the song. It's such a delight watching the A's on screen !

My take at Six word story

Strangers to partners. Over a coffee.

Sucked at blogging. Began to comment.

New glasses. Still the same world.

Cigar: Burnt his lips and pockets.

Lost me. Finders will be rewarded.

Dushti peeves

People asking "How do you do" and not wanting/waiting to hear from you anything more than 'I am fine'.

Receiving chain mails and forwards that ask you to forward it to a hundred other people.

People talking too loud on their cell phones at work and in public places.

Finding long lost friends in orkut only to realise that they dont remember you now.

Hearing the good old songs perfectly butchered in the remix version.

People who put you on call waiting and conveniently forget about it.

Watching commercials/trailers in movie theatres.

Hearing people say PIN number, ATM machine, Chai tea....Can they get any more redundant?

Every week I start

The very thought of you

I count the days
in your anticipation.
I make plans
even before your arrival.

And then you come.

Welcome

I miss

Gossiping the gossips
Sharing the secrets
Dancing like crazy
Fighting to glory
Messing up the room
Sulking the cleaning
Reading the MnB's
Lampooning the Feminas
Shopping aimlessly
Laughing for no reason
Blaring the tape recorder
Planning the mischiefs
Talking the dreams
Dreaming the impossible
Yapping the whole night
Sleeping the whole day
Bunking the classes
Rushing to the theatres
Strolling after dinner
Gaping at the sky
Devouring the dosas
Relishing the teas
Dropping by the temple
Praying for the other
Arguing pointlessly
Singing out aloud
Enjoying little moments
Cribbing at times
Ahh...miss each of these
we did together
and most of all
miss You.

Wonder why - People

The cute guy you meet almost always ends up introducing you to his cuter girl friend.

Your friend always remembers your date of birth. It just slips out of his mind to wish you that day.

Your friendly neighbour almost always has a not-so-friendly dog.

The harder you try to impress a guy, the more likely you make a fool out of yourself in front of him.

Your team mate almost always comes up with that brilliant idea which you wish were yours.

You can never understand the jokes especially the ones they crack in your group meetings.

Your friends almost always call you out for dinner just when you are done with yours.

PS: Still wondering and more to follow !

Ahhh...just figured

All said and done

Now…I am here trying to indulge in yet another activity. I hope this does nt become one of my usual passing fancies. I have always enjoyed writing, though mostly it has been the ‘my dear diary’ stuff. Now I am taking a step ahead and entering the blog world. I have no clue how to go about this blogging. But hope to figure out soon. Until then will keep (s)crapping in this (s)crap book.
